Zero to 800,000 in 5 days. The adventures of a facebook group for the caregivers.

Hi, Groupies! <I just named you that, don’t judge>

#SMYSOfficial is having some growing pains.  We knew this would happen.  In this stage, the participants will argue with each other and tell the admins that we are violating their right to free speech.  Which of course, they have.  I just have a right to delete stuff in my group, because it is inflammatory, pseudoscience, insulting, or just plain ridiculous. I also have the right to delete spam, and some pretty hideous porn, which I have 17 admins doing 24 hours a day.  And they are volunteers, unpaid, and love nursing.  And they love you, no matter how contrary you are. 🙂

What a megalomaniac I am,

I haven’t laughed so much in years! The medical community has endlessly amused me for the last 13 days! Of course, all 17 Admins are mentally and physically exhausted, and some of us have started upping our psych meds.  I meant me. So, let’s have some great #showmeyourstethoscope posts gathered together to bring this thing back on track.  We are here for PEOPLE.  We care for them, love them, hate them, are annoyed by them, touched by them, hurt by them, and hugged by them.  You have to love this job to do it well.  And you have to be able to laugh, because the alternative is to cry.  The pain you deal with every single day can be debilitating.  Laughter IS the best medicine.  And also, some inspiring pictures and posts.  Because we need that too.

We just wrapped up out first day at clinicals. We are in the transition program and are so appreciative of our nurse preceptors. Future RNs in August 2016!

I graduated nursing school September 22, 2015. I started 1 month after losing my 20 year-old young in a senseless homicide. I don't know how I did it but God has not failed me yet!

Escaped medical leech. Maybe he's headed off to get his nursing degree.

I am a Director of Nursing of Miller's Merry Manor in Indianapolis (LTC/SNF). I will do whatever I need to do to ensure the patients have the best care possible. I will work as a nurse, as CNA, I'll crawl under a bed and try to fix it before I call maintenance, make beds, pass ice, give you a hug, go to an outside MD appt if needed, and even visit my patients in the hospital to show them how missed they are and to get well soon! Why?....I want to be there to support my patients AND employees to the best of my ability. I am about team and individual empowerment, learning and teaching. Not just telling someone what to do, but explaining the how and why's. I follow my chain of command: treat employees well, they treat patients well...patients are happy, families are happy! I love my job! All my patients are my family and I just can't even imagine doing anything different! It's amazing when a career and a passion come together! I feel very lucky!

This is my stethoscope in the background honoring my Nurse Friend battling Cancer. It's hard for nurses to be on the receiving end of compassion and giving because we live and breathe taking care of others.

Anyone else gotten a liquid charcoal shower trying to push it down an NG tube?! First and last time I hope... gotta love working in the ER! I turned my patient, co-worker, and room into a Jackson Pollock painting
